MEF reveals Top 10 Predictions for 2012

Welcome to 2012! If there's one thing everybody loves come January, it's a top 10 list of predictions for the year ahead. MEF is no exception, and the mobile gurus have looked into their crystal ball apps to bring us foresight of the big things to come in 2012. MEF has a good track record with it's predictions for the mobile world - in 2011 among other things, it accurately forecasted that the proliferation of Smartphones would drive consumer engagement in mobile. Amazon Kindles Fire under tablet market

This week, Amazon unveiled their first foray into the tablet market with their new full colour, 7 inch Kindle Fire. The launch immediately ignited debate as to whether the Fire constituted a credible threat to Apple’s dominance in the market, primarily because of the pocket friendly $199 price tag, a fraction of the iPad’s which starts at an eye-watering-by-comparison $499. U.N. leads way with M-commerce charity initiative

Tens of thousands of Iraqi refugees in Syria will now be able to receive United Nations food aid by exchanging coupons sent to their mobile telephones as the first such electronic food voucher system in the world moves beyond its pilot phase to embrace those living outside Damascus. This is an amazing real life example of mobile which combines charity with M-commerce and mobile coupons on feature phones. MEF members dominate Guardian’s 2010 Tech Media Invest 100 list

Flirtomatic, GetJar, Jeego, Mippin, Perform Group and Saffron Digital make list of most innovative technology companies, while Shazam tops it. This week saw the announcement of the Guardian’s 2010 Tech Media Invest 100 list. The list honours those companies within the technology industry which have exhibited the highest standards of innovation and creativity in their respective fields.
