MEF CEO Summit 2013 in Pictures

IMG_4794More highlights and photos for you from last week’s 4th Annual MEF CEO Summit, supported by American Express, where over 80 C-level executives from MEF’s international membership joined us at London tech-incubator Level 39 in Canary Wharf.

Last week members from over 20 countries came together at MEF’s 4th annual CEO Summit to hear industry leaders from American Express, Amazon Mobile, Dropbox and Telefonica Digital share their thoughts and vision on today’s mobile ecosystem; all under the rubric of taking your business to the next level.

Collaboration, partnership and innovation were central themes of the day as the execs of MEF’s member engaged in lively debate and networking. Highlights included the stimulus presentations, including Dropbox Head of Mobile Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen who described the story behind the success that has seen Dropbox reach 500 million mobile devices in his presentation “Digital Darwinism” and Victor Basta of Magister Advisors who gave a provocative examination on the true value of today’s and tomorrow’s global mobile market.

Lars and Victor were joined on stage by Howard Gefen, General Manager of Worldwide Business Development for Amazon Mobile, and Jose Valles of Telefonica Digital to explore the apparent dichotomy of “Scale Vs Innovation” in a riveting debate moderated by newly re-elected MEF Global Chair, Andrew Bud. A critical issue for any company, the panelists shared their views on the balancing act of achieving growth and scale while remaining able to successfully evolve, innovate and react to a changing landscape.

As a closed door session we cannot report the discussion, but thank you to all the speakers for sharing their candid and open views. Members can learn more by visiting the member area on the MEF website.

Meffys Start-ups on centre stage

The start-up pitching session is a perennial favourite of the CEO Summit. This year seven companies – all Meffys 2013 entrants in the Innovation categories pitched to the audience and were quizzed by both the panelist and the audience – with Chris Fletcher VP & Global Head of Network Development at American Express leading the interrogation.

Pitching your business in just three minutes to an international audience is not to be under-estimated and the entrepreneurs had their work cut out to effectively communicate their concept and prove to the audience just why they were going to succeed.

We took a look at the winner PixelPin last week, so let’s have a brief rundown of the other companies’ innovative technologies and business models.

Reward Technology presented a hi-tech approach to coupons aiming to enhance the consumer shopping experience by delivering tailored offers to customers as they enter a store.

Cahootsy showed off its collaborative shopping app that brings the power of social networking to the shopping experience, allowing crowd sourcing of like-minded users to get together to buy and sell products.

Loyd Mobile presented an innovative new social platform for apps allowing you to follow friends, brands and celebrities to discover the apps they’re enjoying and get in on the action.

YoYo pitched a hi tech payment system app for retailers and shoppers that lets retailers better understand their customers while delivering loyalty rewards to the customer, that they can share among friends and family.

Daatch who were awarded an honorable mention by the voting audience for its excellent social and dating app for lesbian and bisexual women which featured a slick interface and a focus on validating individuals to ensure the quality of connections.

Changify is a crowd-sourcing community action platform that allows members of the public to initiate and build support for local projects directly from their mobile phones.

All of the excellent pitches were very well received and while PixelPin took the award on the day, It’s not the end of the story for the other entrants as all of the start-ups are still in the running to pick up a Meffy at MEF’s annual awards gala dinner in Silicon Valley on 14th November, supported by Kaspersky Labs & Vserv.mobi, this time voted for by an international panel of journalists, VCs and analysts.

Thanks to all who participated and contributed to a great day – check out the photos from throughout the day below.
