MEF CEO Rimma Perelmuter and Vice President & Global Head of Network Development at American Express Chris Fletcher present Brian Taylor of PixelPin with the award.

A highlight of yesterday’s 4th annual MEF CEO Summit, held at London tech-incubator Level 39 in Canary Wharf, was the Meffys Innovation session where seven mobile start-ups were invited to pitch their business ideas in front of the international executives from member companies and quizzed by an expert panel.

The ultimate winner of the night’s award was UK start-up PixelPin which addresses issues of mobile security with an innovative solution that replaces passwords with pictures.

All of the startups are entrants of the forthcoming Meffys 2013 awards, recognised as a global benchmark for measuring success and rewarding innovation in mobile.

Still not entered?

The deadline for entries is fast approaching – Monday 23rd – so you need to act fast! The awards reward success and innovation across a broad range of content and commerce categories including games, publishing, mobile money and social responsibility.

Ok now back to the action at the CEO Summit.

Each of the start-ups was given just three minutes to present the problem they are trying to solve, their solution and business model to an international industry panel, consisting of Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen, Head of Mobile at Dropbox, Victor Basta, Managing Director at Magister Advisors, an M&A advisory firm, Howard Gefen, GM, Worldwide Business Development at Amazon Mobile and Jose Valles, VP Partner Products, Telefonica Digital.

The CEOs of MEF members from over 20 countries then voted for the business they thought was the most innovative and likely to succeed. The pitches covered a broad range of mobile content and commerce activities including social shopping, loyalty schemes, crowd-sourcing community action platform and a female-only dating app.

Brian Taylor, CEO and Founder at PixelPin said “We recognise the global reach that MEF and the CEOs attending this event have, so to have been awarded the first prize today is a wild dream come true – I am very very pleased to have won.”

You can read the full press release with details of all the fantastic pitches over on the MEF website.

It’s not the end of the story for the other entrants of course as all of the start-ups who pitched at the CEO Summit are still in the running to pick up a Meffy at MEF’s annual awards gala dinner in Silicon Valley on 14th November, supported by Kaspersky Labs & Vserv.mobi and this time voted for by an international panel of journalists, VCs and analysts.

We’ll share more of the highlights from this week’s AGM, global elections and CEO Summit next week.
